Rob Tardik: Rite Of Passage

Mar 4, 2016 - by: David Farrell

Rob Tardik – “Rite of Passage” (Guitardik 2E): The Canadian MOR jazz guitarist has a hit on his hands with this breezy instrumental on a couple of American Smooth Jazz charts. The track is taken from Moments, the commercially adept performer’s fifth album (distributed by Naxos) where he celebrates a breezy history of the instrument in jazz without breaking a sweat or falling into tears. He’s a smart plucker offering candy and playing to sentimentality.

There’s a hint of Benson, a dash of Santana, a sprinkling of Wes, a pinch of Jesse and a fretboard of similarly talented friends whose presence is heard even as they themselves are not present. That ability to capture and share has also stood Tardik well as a teacher and educator on campuses and classrooms across Ontario. Rob plays Casino Rama on the 18th and 19th of this month.
